Surfin Sem Fim (SSF) are one of the most established downwinder / kite 'adven-tour' operators going. Top level pro riders, such as Keahi de Aboitiz, Matchu Lopes, Mitu Monteiro, Reno Romeu and Sebastian Ribeiro frequently join the routes to offer coaching along the way
Although SSF offer entry-level trips too, a downwinder with of the sorts of distance and locations that they have built a reputation specialising in can be as tough as they are thrilling. Their longer trips can be a truly wild experience and much of the time you’ll be away from any signs of human life for long stretches of time.
A a pick-up truck will follow you on SSF downwinders for most of their routes which will carry your gear between the overnight stops. Be warned though, the truck won’t be able to keep track of you all the way and sometimes you’ll be without support on more exposed stretches - but this is all part of the wild adventure!
THE IRONMAN Cumbuco to Atins: SSF’s most famous downwinder is also one of their most challenging. Taking eight days, you'll cover 600 kilometres on your board down the coast of Ceará. You’ll stop off at some of Brazil’s best known spots along the way, including Icaraizinho, Preá and Barra Grande. Expect to be out kiting at least five hours a day and conditions can be challenging at times, so it’s not for inexperienced riders.
ULTRA-MAN: A 1,000 KILOMETRE TRIP Surfin Sem Fim is always taking it to the next level. Join the team from São Miguel do Gostoso in the state of Rio Grande do Norte along the entire coastline of Ceará to Atins, passing through four different states as you go! Again, this is for experienced riders and SSF ask that you’ve done at least one of their more challenging routes in the past before attempting this one.
SCENIC RIDES SSF's downwinders aren’t all epic tests of endurance. On the Delta Poldros and the Delta Experience ‘intermediate’ routes you’ll be guided around incredible places, like the breathtaking natural reserves in the Delta do Parnaíba and the Lençois Maranhenses. Surfin Sem Fim have a couple of other routes of similar difficulty and length, covering between 200 and 300 kilometres, but there are also some first-time downwinder trips, like the 'Light' route; a 60 kilometre journey from Preá to Camocim, designed purely for those looking to improve their downwinder skills.
Wind, weather & water
The wind blows here from June to January, with October and November the peak months when winds can frequently push up to 30 knots and beyond. You'll need a 7 or 9 metre most of the time in season, with the occasional bigger kite day as well.
The water is a comfortable 27°C / 80°F for much of the year and the with long days on the water it's worth covering up but you won't need a wetsuit.
COACHING - Beyond Brazil
SSF has expanded to operate in diverse (and amazing) locations. Wave clinics take place in some of the world’s best wave riding locations, including Peru, Mauritius and Hawaii, and these camps are suited to all levels in waves of varying difficulty. Other coaching clinics for 2020 are also in Cabo Verde, Venezuela and on home turf in Brazil! If you’re into hydro-foiling, they’ve got a few clinics for you as well.
SSF's downwind routes are open to less experienced kiters through to advanced and even professional riders. They're about downwind adventuring, and not instruction, but SSF do now have offer coaching in some diverse (and amazing) locations around the world and beyond Brazil!
Surfin Sem Fim organizes fantastic hotels for you to stay in each night, where you can refuel and recover after a long day on the water. Incredible food and beverages every night, as well as additional services such as massages or tours.
This is northeast Brazil. In season, there's always wind!
You'll be guided from point to point each day by SSF's professional guides. You don't need to worry about your gear, that's all taken care of. You just need to focus on shredding!
