Salty’s is only three kilometres from Kilifi town where you can soak up the local atmosphere during a stroll down the streets, visit the fresh veg market, watch the boats move up and down the creek, hang out with the locals in tea rooms and enjoy local cuisine. Aside from Salty’s restaurant, Kilifi offers varied options for dining out, including the world famous Nautilus Restaurant, voted the best seafood restaurant in Kenya. If you’re looking for a truly magical experience, pizza nights at Distant Relatives followed by a late night swim in the bioluminescent creek is a classic. There are a whole host of local cafes that serve traditional Swahili food that you should try at least once. Kilifi is a part of the Swahili coast and, as such, no visit is complete without trying a Biryani or Swahili style Bhajias (similar to pakora).

Home to herds of elephants and buffalo, Arabuko Sokoke Forest is 30 minutes away. Salty’s can organise a safari excursion and the forest nature trail has a stunning viewpoint, where an 80 metre cliff provides views of Mida Creek, the forest and the Indian Ocean.

Kilifi Creek is great for other watersports, such as sailing, wakeboarding and diving. On the other side of the bridge you may be interested to check out Mnarani Village, home to the ruins of a 14th century mosque.
