Rhosneigr Park Jam and the Kite Park League 2016 draws to a close
So yesterday we began the long drive back from North Wales feeling lucky to have witnessed a triumphant return of world class competition to UK shores. The RPJ was the final stop of the Kite Park League – a wakestyle kitesurfing tour that has run events in the Philippines, two events in the USA at the Triple S and Hood River, Russia and this week in Wales, UK.
This week the boys and girls rode early mornings to get the best wind and tide conditions at the kite park in Rhosneigr, while the last two days have been filled with cable sessions off the banks of a beautiful farmland lake with a wooden boat house and dock that hosted two fantastic late night parties.
Sam Light has won every event this season (apart from Russia which he didn’t attend) and was once again on top of the podium here in Wales. Noè Font took second and is the rapidly riding star on tour. Canadian Craig Cunningham, always solid and consistent, took third.
In the women’s double PKRA World Freestyle Champion Karolina Winkowska took another win ahead of Sensi Graves and Manuela Jungo. The progression, style and flow of female riding has come a long way this season and these three girls all shredded hard.
Sam Light and Karolina Winkowska were crowned as overall Kite Park League Champions for the 2016 season. Congratulations to them and to all involved in this hugely successful first season.
Special credit must go to Benjamin Thomas Todd and his brother Max (as well as to all their team of helpers) who have done such a solid job to entice the world’s best to their truly special spot in northwest Wales. Great guys, great spirit… and great party hosts!
