The Townsville Sailing Club is once again hosting this major regatta in tandem with Kiting Australia incorporating the Australian National Kitefoil Championships for Open and Formula Classes with the final HFPT stop of the season.

This event won’t count to the overall HydroFoil Pro Tour rankings, although some of the HFPT competitors are taking part anyway, and that means that Guy Bridge will be taking the tour title this season while the focus at this event will be very much on the homegrown talent!

The conditions have were ideal yesterday on day one with sunshine and steady NE wind 12-14 knots and racing started at 1300 hrs as the afternoon sea breeze began to come in.

The course is windward / leeward with a bottom gate and gybe around the start pin and a long reach to the finish and some serious technical manoeuvring skills other are required to do well on this one. It’s not just about straight line speed!

There were some super tight finishes throughout the day with Mani Bischopps and Alti Frisby leading the pack to the last gybe almost everytime.

With 5 races completed on day one it was time to rest ahead of day 2 as the riders re-tuned their kites for another day of racing.

Stay tuned to HydroFoil Pro Tour socials across the weekend for regular updates!
