TO THE MOON
An Airton Cozzolino interview.

Jaime Herraiz had a distinguished pro riding career, blazed his own trails for the sport along the way and now pulls plenty of strings behind the scenes to help kiteboarding continue to flourish competitively. He says,

“Besides his incredible ability to excel in so many different board sports, what sets Airton apart from the rest of the top athletes I’ve ever met is his drive to smash his own boundaries and constantly push himself physically. He’s on a solo trip to push our sport and never backs off. As a passionate kiteboarder I truly hope Airton keeps doing what he does for many years to come.”

An authentic, pure blooded athlete, his only passion is to kite as much as he can and push what’s possible. Airton’s interview is our headline feature this issue. Find it from page 68.

PLUS:

If you’re a regular Kiteworld reader, perhaps you’ve noticed that as well as featuring the rockstars of the sport, we also like to share stories of people who are a little easier to relate to. Essentially they’re kite addicts, just like most of us, but they’ve taken their passion to the next level.

Maryeve Mayrand snowkiter

Starting on page 104 Marie-Eve Mayrand tells us about her love of wintery conditions in the Canadian Rockies, where she developed an interest in kiting longer and longer distances. The 39-year-old marketing expert completed her first VAKE race in Norway this year – a 250 kilometre night and day slog into the Arctic Circle. Kiting takes all sorts… and there were plenty of other crazies keen to camp in the snow and ice alongside her.

Carl Alvey snowiting in Greenland

Sticking with the snow theme, Polar guide Carl Alvey took a surgeon and a banker to explore the Greenland Ice Cap with their snowkites. See how they got on from page 62.

Mark Shinn's Kiteworld magazine column

Mark Shinn takes on the second of his ‘Or’ themed columns, this time debating the nitty and the gritty around using straps or going strapless on page 48.

All that, plus the usual plethora of news, opinion, vital advice and visual froth – this issue is more than just kindling for your winter flame.
