Naish Motion 138 2014

Naish Motion 2014

THE HYPE:

The Motion is for riders looking for unrivalled versatility in one ‘do it all’ design. The medium flex is ideal for slow to medium speed riding with the triple concave adding incredible drive and control. The three stage rocker is forgiving, directionally very stable on the back foot and eats up the chop while the thin bevelled edge step rails provide solid grip, tracking and smooth riding. The Motion offers everything from freeride and freestyle performance to twin-tip wave riding functionality.

TEST TEAM NOTES:

If ever there was a board that looks like it can roll with the bad boys but will look after everyone then this is it. Another well presented product by Naish that looks great. Matt in its finish, you’d be drawn to it in a shop though and it’s great that riders now don’t have to buy a stiff board if they want the most aggressive looking model. The pads and straps are also attention grabbing and are about more than just bling with a four way adjustable Velcro system. Robust top and bottom sheets – the Naish inspires confidence in its longevity of build.

The Motion is as flexible as a Russian gymnast and usually when that is combined with the amount of channeling in the base you’d expect this to be slow, but it’s not. There’s no sticking to the water and the levels of riding comfort are extremely high. There’s loads of grip on landing and the Motion sits deep and steady in the water but has no issues when you want it to release. You can be aggressive, throw it around and pop it easily from one side to the other. This is one of the most flexible boards we’ve tested this year and, while it’s too soft for really high end freestyle performance, we found a lot of pleasure in the feeling of the Motion underfoot. Send a soft board through a hard carve on a wave face and you can watch it morph to the water from the way your body is pushing it. Naish have managed to find a quite unique combination of accepting these forces and providing just enough push back without bogging or feeling slow. A pleasant swing weight for boosted airs and rotations, light enough for easy grabs and sure enough on landings to inspire confidence.

The Motion does a great job of being more than just a standard parallel rectangle and does everything you’d expect in terms of modern twin-tip design.

SUMMARY:

Really great aggressive looks, the Motion is a serious bit of kit that is so easy to ride. Very comfortable and a lot of fun for throwing around it becomes a little too soft for properly powered freestyle moves. If you’re a heavy rider then this might have too much flex to give you the get up and go you need.

KW LIKED:

Aggressive looks in a very easy to ride, confidence inspiring package.

KW WOULD CHANGE:

Heavier or more aggressive riders will want something stiffer.
