MONDIAL DU VENT 2010
The second round of the PKRA World Tour saw an unfortunate first day in France as unfavourable conditions meant there would be no kiting on this day. The sun was shinning in full force though so kiting displays were set up on the beach and along the boardwalk and a general relaxed atmosphere allowed crowds to soak things up for what was looking to be a promising second say.
On Day 2 race director Erik Troostheide announced that the competition would be running thanks to a 25-30 knot average wind speed. The single eliminations kicked things off at just after 9:00am.
In the first heat French rider Sebastien Garat (RRD, FRA) defeated Mario Rodwald (North, GER) and later also eliminating Brazilian rider Tomas Teixera (RRD, BRA). His winning streak came to an end though when faced with the formidable Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) despite the extremely close heat. The judges pondered for minutes after the heat to make their final 3/2 decision in favour of Zoon.
It was a winning day for Australian Competitor Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUD) who defeated Spanish rider Gerard Sanchez in his first heat of the day. Yates was riding strong, with power, style and execution, which enabled him to also take a win over current world champion Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED), moving him into the final against Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED). Yates kept his consistency going defeating fellow Slingshot rider Zoon in the men's final.
It was Zoon then that landed the second spot on the podium, followed by Alex Pastor (Airush, ESP) in third and surprisingly Kevin Langeree in fourth place. Langeree seemed to be having some technical difficulties with his equipment throughout all his heats.
In the women's division, it was a successful day for 16-year-old Spanish rider Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP) who eliminated Karolina WInkowska (Slingshot, POL) as well as 2009 world champion Bruna Kajiya (Flexifoil, BRA) , making her the 2010 France single elimination champion. Bruna Kajiya then took second place with Karolina Winkowska in third. Angela Peral (North, ESP) came in at a respected fourth.
The double eliminations began with deteriorating wind conditions and were unfortunately cancelled because of this.
