BKSA Course Racing: Round 1
| RACING FINAL STANDINGS: 1. Jason McCaffery (Cabrinha) 2. Denzil Williams (F-One / Escape) 3. Lee Harvey (North Kiteboarding) |
Watergate Bay, April 16 – 18The BKSA kicked off the new season with a return to Watergate Bay for round one of the National Course Racing Championships and Wave Jam. The sunshine was out in abundance on the Friday but unfortunately a lack of wind meant that the event was cancelled. Despite the fact that the new course boards so not require a lot of breeze to get themselves going, there were still a few riders who were stranded out at sea and had to be picked up by the safety crew on boats and jet skis.
Saturday was more promising, dawning with a light North Easterly slowly built up and swung to the North to provide 10-12 knots. Two races were held back to back which saw the guys on the specialist kit take the lead with ease. In race one it was reigning '08 and '09 British Champion, Denzil Williams who came out on top, with racers having to complete two laps of a triangle course. Race two saw Jason McCaffery pip Denzil at the post, but only by half a boards length! Lee Harvey unfortunately came in out of time.
Sunday unfortunately did not produce enough wind to keep Saturdays racing momentum going, but there was enough wind and waves for the Wave Jam to go ahead as planned. So as per the rules that the winner of race two in an event of a tie was awarded the win, Jason McCaffery took home the gold.www.britishkitesurfingassociation.co.uk
